Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal would be a disaster

I was in the process of writing a letter about the fallacy of Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal but columnist Walter Williams beat me to it.

In his excellent column on the subject, Mr. Williams chronicles several cataclysmic events that have happened to this Earth. Many volcanic eruptions have pumped massive amounts of dust and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, yet we are still here. Yes, this Earth is pretty resilient. God made it that way.

Mr. Williams also mentions Ocasio-Cortez’s now famous claim that this Earth will end in 12 years if we do not address climate change. No, I do not think so. This Green New Deal is a disaster. It calls for the complete overhaul of transportation in this country. This includes upgrading all existing buildings to be energy efficient, eliminating all fossil fuels, and building high-speed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary. Which raises the question: How wilI we get to Hawaii? By rowboat? I didn't even mention the cost for all this. One estimate, according to Bloomberg News, puts it at well over $80 trillion.

Furthermore, this is coming from the very same individual who claims that she is "the boss," who wants financial security for those who are unwilling to work, and who claims that those who disagree with her deal are just shouting from the cheap seats. Oh really? Well, it is my genuine pleasure to remind Ocasio-Cortez that those who vote for and elect their officials are the boss. You know, as in “we the people.”

To hear such delusion from politicians is bad enough. But many young people, mostly millennials, are buying this hook, line and sinker. What is needed is education, especially in history, before this great country turns into another Venezuela.

I strongly agree with what actor James Woods says about the year 1776. Liberty taught a lesson then. I believe class is in session again.
