If you’re looking for a way to create some festive decor and get in the holiday mood, check out next weekend’s “Deck Those Halls” Designer’s Workshop at Museum of the Albemarle.

This year’s workshop will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Charlotte Patterson, education curator at the museum, has been coordinating the workshop since 2006 and says she looks forward to it each year.

“It is a very enjoyable morning in the museum,” Patterson said. “It’s a fun time.”

Participants in this year’s workshop will make a snowman family. Patterson said she chose this particular craft after seeing a variety of versions online.

The snowman family will be painted with acrylics on three pieces of raw wood. Attendees can add embellishments. Templates will be provided but participants can also create their own.

“Everybody’s is a little different,” Patterson said of the finished product.

The embellishments and fabrics can be used to design a Christmas or winter-themed snowman family.

“I prefer to show examples and help people as we go,” said Patterson. “It is pretty straightforward.”

Patterson said the class is for both adults and teens.

“No special skills are required,” said Patterson. “I am there to help you.”

All materials are also provided.

Patterson said the project will take about two hours to complete, and a catered lunch will be offered while the paint on the snowman family is drying.

Patterson said participants can use the snowman family as gifts or keep them for their own festive decor. She recommends sitting them by the door, fireplace or table.

Patterson said some people attend the workshop with groups of friends or family members.

“Some of these people have been coming since the beginning,” said Patterson.

She enjoys seeing the returning participants and meeting the new people who attend each year.

The cost of the workshop is $25 for Friends of Museum of the Albemarle members and $30 for nonmembers. To register, call the museum at (252)-335-1453. For more information about the workshop, visit https://www.museumofthealbemarle.com/designers-workshop-deck-those-halls.

Patterson is also looking forward to the start of the season and the museum’s Holiday Open House: Christmas in Who-seum-ville!, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The list of activities for the day is located at https://www.museumofthealbemarle.com/holiday-open-house-christmas-who-seum-ville and includes a showing of the film, “The Grinch,” the Tiny Tot Christmas Train, carriage and pony rides and a visit from Santa Claus. Patterson said the event is free and she expects “a couple of thousand people throughout the day” will attend.
