Deaths probed as murder, suicide

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent-murder suicide Sunday in the northern part of the county.
According to a press release, the sheriff’s office was dispatched Sunday around 4:45 p.m. to the 1200 block of Sawyers Road in Newland in response to a report of a possible suicide attempt.
When deputies arrived, they found a woman seated in a chair on the back porch with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Deputies also found a man in the bedroom who had died from a gunshot wound.
Officers identified the woman as Gina Jenette Cross, 53. The man was identified as William Preston Deane, 70. Both Cross and Deane lived in the house, according to the press release.
Cross was transported by ambulance to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, where she died later Sunday evening, the sheriff’s office said.
The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to the sheriff’s office.
