College of The Albemarle has tapped its public information officer to serve as executive director of the COA Foundation.
The foundation’s previous executive director, Bonnye Hart, resigned effective Oct. 5. Hart had held the position since June 11.
Amy Alcocer, who has been serving as COA’s public information officer since December 2017, has been appointed to succeed Hart.
“Amy has strong ties to the communities in our service area and understands the needs of the college and its students,” the college said in a statement Friday. “She brings a number of years of experience in fundraising, event planning, higher education, sales and communications. She has worked for local businesses including Elizabeth City State University, the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce and The Daily Advance, where her professional integrity and commitment to serve made her the top choice to fill the position from within.”
COA officials said they were unable to comment on Hart’s resignation since it’s a personnel issue.
Alcocer said Friday she is excited about the new work.
“I plan to continue to expand on community partnerships with previous and prospective donors to support the foundation's mission,” Alcocer said. “I am most excited about sharing the success of our current students and alumni. I plan to expand the COA Alumni Connect initiative, which brings awareness to the many graduates who work in our local community, into a true alumni association. Together we can advocate for COA and showcase the tremendous impact this community college has on the region.”
