A woman Elizabeth City police have described as a U.S. Postal Service employee is facing several weapon-related charges after allegedly pointing a handgun at an ex-boyfriend outside the city post office last week.

Xiomara Natasha Watkins, 29, of the 500 block of Massachusetts Ave., Elizabeth City, was arrested Friday and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and going armed to the terror of the public, Sgt. Latoya K. Flanigan said in a press release.

Watkins’ unsecured bond was set at $5,000. She is due in Pasquotank District Court on Thursday.

According to Flanigan, city police responded to a report of a woman with a handgun in the parking lot of the post office building at 1001 West Ehringhaus Street just after 9 a.m. When officers arrived, Watkins was unarmed but they learned she had gotten into both a verbal and physical altercation with a man they identified as Larry Williams and described as Watkins’ ex-boyfriend. The altercation allegedly took place in Watkins’ vehicle in the parking lot and involved Watkins displaying and pointing a handgun at Williams, Flanigan said.

Flanigan said Williams left the parking lot before police arrived and has not come forward to be interviewed by police. She said Watkins, who they determined works at the post office, has not told police where they can find him.

Flanigan said more charges are pending in the incident.

A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service was attempting to confirm Watkins’ employment with the Postal Service on Saturday.

Flanigan said police’s investigation of the incident continues. She urged anyone with information about the incident to call police at 335-4321 or the Elizabeth City Crime Line at 335-5555.
