CURRITUCK — The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a Thursday evening collision in Currituck County between a vehicle and a farm combine that sent one person to the hospital.

The collision was reported in the 1400 block of Caratoke Highway in the Moyock area at 6:24 p.m., Currituck Fire-EMS Chief Ralph Melton said in a press release.

The accident affected 10 people, the combine driver and nine people in the van, Melton said. Only one of them — a front-seat passenger in the van — was transported to a hospital, he said.

The passenger, who suffered major facial injuries, was transported by Nightingale air ambulance to the trauma center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was reported to be in serious condition, Melton said.

Responding to the accident besides the Highway Patrol were the Moyock and Crawford volunteer fire departments and the Currituck Sheriff’s Office.
