EDENTON — Residents of a Chowan County community are seeking help from the county, law enforcement and the courts against a resident they claim makes their community less safe.
Robin Engel, a resident of Chowan Beach, advised county commissioners last week that her community is circulating a petition against the resident.
“Her continued presence in our community prevents us from our right to live in a safe environment,” Engel said.
The petition states the resident, whose name is not being used for this story, has been convicted for a number of crimes, including assault, excessive noise violations, property damage, harassment, stalking and trespassing. In addition, community residents have made more than 500 calls about the resident to Chowan’s 911 service over the years, according to the petition.
“We need some help. It's horrible what this woman does to the community,” Chowan Beach resident Kathy Hynes said.
