CAMDEN — A Virginia, man was charged with driving while impaired after being found unresponsive on the ground near his car due to an apparent drug overdose, according to the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
Robbie Linwood Clark, 49, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, was charged with driving while impaired by Deputy D.F. Smith.
Sheriff Kevin Jones said deputies were called to the Dismal Swamp Welcome Center north of South Mills around 10:45 p.m. on June 30. There they found a 2014 Honda Accord near the welcome center entrance and a man lying on the ground near the driver's side door. The man had a large gash, apparently from falling onto the ground.
An investigation determined that Clark was the driver of the vehicle, which was still idling when officers arrived, and that he appeared to be under the influence of opiates, according to Jones.
Another man who was in the back seat of the car also was unresponsive, and Naloxone was administered to that man in order to revive him, Jones said.
Clark was transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for further evaluation, Jones said.
