EDENTON —The Edenton Steamers announced their latest 2019 roster additions Wednesday.
Brycen Thomas and John Dowless of Middle Tennessee State University will be wearing the Teal and Black this summer.
Thomas, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound sophomore from Spring Hill, Tenn. is a two-way player.
The right hander also plays first base for the Blue Raiders.
"We're excited to see how Byrcen grows this spring and how he can carry it over for us in the summer. He is someone who has some pop and can also help eat up some innings," said Edenton head coach Russ Burroughs.
This spring he has posted a .250 average with 2 long balls and 11 RBI.
Dowless, a 6-foot, 180-pound sophomore will help bolster the Clams' rotation.
"It's exciting to add another left-hander to the mix. We have quite a few this summer and this will allow us to set up matchups that are in our favor, especially late in ball games. I also like that he grew up very close to my hometown. That will add some familiarity for us both," said Burroughs.
The Mount Juliet, Tenn. native has allowed two runs in 6.2 innings pitched this spring.
At Mount Juliet High School, he was named a top 100 player in Tennessee by Perfect Game for the class of 2017.
Dowless is the seventh lefty added to the Steamers' pitching staff for the 2019 campaign.
Opening Day at Historic Hicks Field is on May 30, as the Steamers host the Morehead City Marlins.
