Edenton's Noah Whitley places in top 50 at NCHSAA Class 1A boys' golf state championship

PINEHURST — John A. Holmes' Noah Whitley completed his second and final round at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 1A boys' golf state championship tournament Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 6.

Whitley, a freshman, shot 22-over-par 94 during the second round.

He finished the two-day tournament tied for 46th place at 44-over-par 188 with Mitchell's Hudson Renfro and East Surry's Zeke Bruner.

Whitley, who finished tied for third place at the NCHSAA Class 1A East Regional May 7, was the only representative from Edenton at the state championship.

Union Academy's Caleb Surratt won the state championship by shooting 1-under-par 143 during the two-day tournament.

Surratt shot 1-under-par 71 during Tuesday's final round.

Highland Tech's Addison Beam was second.

He shot even par 144 during the two rounds and shot 1-under-par 71 Tuesday.

Community School of Davidson won the team state championship with a +85 over two rounds. East Surry was second with a +102.
