Adams powers Steamers past Mustangs

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The Edenton Steamers defeated the Martinsville Mustangs 8-1 Saturday night at Hooker Field.

Edenton (15-14, 2-1 second half) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a Jordan Fitzpatrick RBI single.

The Clams scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Brycen Thomas had an RBI single, while Colin Adams hit a 2-run home run in the fourth.

In the fifth, Quincy Hamilton and Adams each posted RBI singles, while Justin Drpich had an RBI double for a 7-0 advantage.

An Ian Walters RBI sacrifice fly out in the sixth increased the Steamers lead to 8-0.

Martinsville (14-19, 4-3 second half) scored in the bottom of the sixth on a Trey Woosley RBI single.

Adams went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI, Mason Holt went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Drpich and Fitzpatrick each posted two hits with an RBI in the contest.

The Steamers registered 13 hits in the win.

Tyler Hopman got the start on the mound for Edenton and went three innings, gave up four hits, no earned runs, no walks and struck out two Martinsville batters.

Nick Torres followed Hopman and went two innings, only gave up a hit, no earned runs and a walk to earn the win.

RD Lutze, Kross Robinson, Grant Crosby and Blake Beers also pitched in relief for the Clams in the victory.

After the all-star break, Edenton returns to action Wednesday at Morehead City.
