For the second straight week, the weather was the storyline at northeastern North Carolina’s 3/8-mile dirt oval raceway.

A strong thunderstorm rolled over the area around 6 p.m. Friday as race teams and fans began settling in for a night of excitement.

Heavy rain, hail, and high winds battered the area for several minutes resulting in a flooded course and a property that was damaged in several areas.

Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.

Officials ultimately canceled what was scheduled to be the 10th race of the season around 6:15 p.m. It was the fifth event called off this season due to weather.

Action resumes Friday on Dixie 105.7 night featuring five divisions of competition, including a special 40-lap Budweiser Allstar Late Model race, paying $1,200 to win. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Racing kicks off at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase in person. The season will continue on Friday, August 23 and will wrap up on Friday, August 30.
